A tool to help leaders regulate their emotions

How are you feeling?

That’s not a rhetorical question.

Did you know that the more vocabulary you have to label your emotions, the more effectively you can regulate them?

This technique is known as “labelling” and research has proven it effective at dampening emotional responses and freeing up your brain’s executive functions (eg decision-making, planning).

The Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence has developed a Mood Meter you can use as a tool to support you in increasing your emotional literacy and agility. It’s based on the circumplex model of affect, which defines emotions as having two dimensions, pleasantness and energy.
